About the Artist

Stephen Rock

Stephen Rock grew up in Ellensburg, WA, the son of an art teacher. A skilled and diverse artist, he has created work in a range of mediums including digital imaging, mixed media collage, watercolor, acrylic, sumi, scrimshaw,  small and large sculpture works and installations pieces. His work often reflects the materials and influences of the Northwest.  He was awarded a 2005 residency at the Morris Graves' Foundation and later a PONCHO Artistic Merit Award in 2008.

Stephen, who reclaims or recycles materials as the base for his sculptural pieces, reuses societies discards to create an awareness of consumption. The history of the marks on the materials lends a collaborative vein to the process.  Stephen is currently a partner in Rock|Dement visual art space in Pioneer Square and is the owner of Rock’s Studio – a digital studio in Seattle that provides fine art printmaking services.
