About the Artist
Larry Naylor
Seattle-born Larry Naylor is a sculptor who draws on his technical experiences as a bicycle mechanic/frame builder, carpenter and potter. His combined wood, clay and steel sculptures are greatly influenced by his early exposure to the 50s, 60s, and 70s space programs, science fiction movies and westerns. The resulting spacemorphic forms pair the fantastic imaginings of his youth with that of his rural Western Washington upbringing, provided by parents who participated in commercial fishing and subsistence garden/farming.
Larry’s early careers include working in the fishing, forestry and construction industries. While pursuing degrees in Economics and Political Science at Pacific Lutheran University, Larry studied photography with Bea Geller. Larry continues to build his 15-year career in the bicycle industry as owner/operator of Perfect Wheels. Currently an Artist in Residence at Pottery Northwest, Larry makes sculpture with a variety of materials, including ceramics, metal, wood, cardboard and tar.
