About the Artist
Kinu Watanabe
Kinu Watanabe was born in Niigata, Japan. Living in the United States for four years, she has become more aware of her own identity and Japanese culture. A graduate of Fine Arts from Osaka University of Arts, Kinu’s experience of moving to another country is reflected in the installation spaces she creates. They allow each viewer to relate his or her own personal experiences to the narrative depicted through the evidence of human presence. She is interested in the imprints left by human absence.
Kinu received a Masters of Fine Arts in Ceramics from the University of Washington in 2008, and is currently a resident artist and instructor at Pottery Northwest in Seattle. She recently exhibited in various solo and group shows including SOIL Backspace Gallery, Kobo Gallery at Higo in Seattle and NCECA (National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts) 2009 Clay National Biannual Exhibition at Arizona State University Ceramic Research Center in Phoenix, AZ. Kinu is scheduled to exhibit in a solo show at 4 Culture Gallery in December 2009. This year, she received Grants for Artist Project Program (GAP) by Artist Trust and Individual Artist Projects by 4 Culture.
