About the Artist
Evan Blackwell
Within the urban environment, sensory overload exists, such as that found in pinball games with its cacophony of sound and flashing lights. Artist Evan Blackwell, a Seattle resident from New Rochelle, NY, sees this as both alluring and intrusive. Evan is enticed from both sides – feeling the excitement of our technological culture, counterbalanced by a desire for the quiet of a rural setting.
Evan creates artwork with collected, rearranged and repurpose materials as a means to comprehend, organize and bring new meaning to his world. When effectively recontextualized, objects take on powerful new meanings. At the very core of his artistic research is a desire to create a harmony between the reality of his urban existence and his own personal ideology.
In 1999 Evan completed a Fine Arts degree with a ceramics focus from Alfred University, Alfred NY. In 2008 he earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Washington. In addition to his studio art practice he has worked as an artist assistant, ceramic art instructor and a potter.
