About the Artist

Casey’s Belltown apartment is in an old building scented with the aroma of Seattle history.  As you walk into his home, these first impressions are forgotten, and you are greeted by a nicely laid out flat.  One is pleasantly welcomed by a suspended light sculpture resembling a dangling jellyfish.  For a moment, you have the sense of being under water.  I have experienced nothing like it, and it is such a surprising contrast to the heavy brick exterior of the building.  When I asked what his favorite movie was, Casey answered, “Avatar.”  He said that the organic colors and forms of the giant plants absolutely captivated him.  A product of his upbringing, his architect father instilled an early understanding of how to interact with space.  Casey naturally gravitated to the theatrical world where he began designing sets.  Active with Implied Violence, an experimental, contemporary group, he designed and produced several sculptures and installations for Dorothy K., a 24-hour theater presentation in Vienna, Austria.   Casey is quite unique in his optimism, with an engaging, warm side.  He just sees the world with unbridled enthusiasm.

Slant Featured Installation for MadArt in the Park

What is the very thin layer between the atmosphere above and the earth below?  What mysterious life does it hold and in what forms?  I want to give earth its own mirror so that we can see and appreciate it for what it is.  We have long ignored this moment for reflection.   How do you imagine it now?
